18-Device Universal Remotes !!!!

View Source

The straightforwardly-named One for All recently came out with two universal remote controls, both featuring a 2.2″ color display. The Xsight Colour URC 8602 and Xsight Touch 8603 are practically similar, right down to their ability to control up to 18 other devices, save for iPod-like touch controls on the latter model (yes, another victim of iPhone mania). The Touch also runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, while the Colour depends on 3 triple As.

Both variants’ small screens apparently preclude the need for a manual, since all relevant information will end up on-screen, updated as necessary. One For All also promises that their universal remotes do a good job of setting themselves up, with “region-specific” device auto-search.

The URC8602 is available from Comet Accessories for £99, while its touch-counterpart retails for £146.79 at Argos.

Pending the results of any hands-on review, the viability of spending a hundred pounds ($142) or more on a universal remote depends on the value you place on convenience. Personally, the potential savings in battery costs are huge, even if you opt for the Colour’s 3 AA setup over the Touch’s recharging cradle (pictured above).

Music Therapy !!! An informative Article!!

What is Music Therapy?

There are many forms of alternative pain management that transcend simply medicating the problem. Effective alternative pain management techniques like music therapy have been around for hundreds of years and have provided holistic relief for thousands of suffering people. The music therapy experience can be a fun, inspiring, safe vehicle to address goals such as emotional release, self-expression, body-awareness, group cohesiveness, relaxation/pain management, and creative self-exploration. This emotional release is especially helpful to those in eating disorder residential programs, trauma treatment centers and drug rehab facilities. Emotional well-being is an important component of successful alternative pain management strategies, and music therapy contributes to restoring optimal well-being by using music to address these and other non-musical goals.

Music therapy sessions in a group setting include active music making (singing, drumming), live music listening with relaxation, song writing/lyric analysis, and creative music arts. Playing instruments as a form of expression is used to create a unique non-verbal outlet for emotional release. Drumming is a way to release physical and emotional tension in a healthy manner, and to incorporate the mind-body connection. This alleviation of tension is particularly helpful when used in conjunction with alternative pain management therapies. Those in bulimia programs, anorexia nervosa treatment centers, binge eating facilities and trauma therapy often find great relief through the use of these musical instruments.

History of Music Therapy

Music therapy has been in existence for many years and was once used as a healing therapy for veterans in World Wars I and II. This therapy however, was not officially recognized as an organized profession until the year 1950. Since then its popularity has spread with the opening of the American Association for Music Therapy and the National Association for Music Therapy. These two organizations merged in 1998 and have since been known as the AMTA (American Music Therapy Association).

Who Can Benefit From Music Therapy?

Music therapy can be beneficial to a wide variety of people, especially to those in eating disorder treatment and treatment for drug abuse. These include:

  • Drug and alcohol addicts
  • Those with depression or low self-esteem
  • Abuse victims
  • People with ADHD/ADD
  • Struggling teens
  • People with mental disorders or brain injuries
  • Eating disorder sufferers
  • Those with behavioral problems
  • People grieving from a recent death
  • The disabled

Benefits of Music Therapy

Benefits of music therapy include:

  • Improved communication and expression of emotion
  • Increased attention span
  • Pain management
  • Stress reduction
  • Improved academic, social and motor skills
  • Decreased behavioral problems
  • Ability to create and play music
  • Better memory
  • Enhanced physiological and spiritual well being

Music is a non-invasive, non-threatening tool that has the power to go deep into the psyche. This ability to transcend superficialities makes it an essential tool for alternative pain management. The effects of this therapy are also beneficial to those in bulimia treatment, treatment for alcoholism, cocaine addiction treatment and anorexia treatment. Music therapy sessions provide a variety of techniques that incorporate sensory stimulation to facilitate the mind-body connection - leading to awareness and a reconnection to the body’s sensations.

Most Expensive Motorcycle in the World

Dodge Tomahawk

The most expensive motorcycle in production will cost you at least $250,000. The production is limited to a few hundred models, so you better place your order. The Dodge Tomahawk V10 superbike boasts 8.3 liter engine (505 cubic inch), and the 10 cylinders can bring the bike to a maximum speed of almost 400 mph. The 1500lb bike has an independent 4 wheel suspension and can reach 60 mph in around 2.5 seconds.

World's Most Expensive Cloth

Scabal’s Gold Treasure

Scabal—whose clients include Bill Clinton, Daniel Craig, Robert DeNiro and Jack Nicholson—announced their expensive fabric a mere eight months before Holland and Sherry announced theirs. Also made of vicuña, Scabal has gone one step further by weaving gold into the cloth. The result is the Gold Treasure range, priced at £4,000 (US $5,759) per meter—that works out to $1,755 per foot versus Holland and Sherry’s $1,439 per foot.

World’s Most Expensive Streets (Residential)

1. Avenue Princess Grace, Monaco - $17,750 per square foot.

The world’s most expensive residential street was named after former Monacan princess and iconic black and white film actress Grace Kelly. 4G Technology !!! An Over View !

Fourth Generation (4G) mobiles

4G also called as Fourth-Generation Communications System, is a term used to describe the next step in wireless communications. A 4G system can provide a comprehensive IP solution where voice, data and streamed multimedia can be provided to users on an "Anytime, Anywhere" basis. The data transfer rates are also much higher than previous generations.

The main objectives of 4G are:

1)4G will be a fully IP-based integrated system.

2)This will be capable of providing 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s speeds both indoors and outdoors.

3)It can provide premium quality and high security.

4)4G offer all types of services at an affordable cost.

4G is developed to provide high quality of service (QoS) and rate requirements set by forthcoming applications such as wireless broadband access, Multimedia Messaging, Video Chat, Mobile TV, High definition TV content, DVB, minimal service like voice and data, and other streaming services.

4G technology allow high-quality smooth video transmission. It will enable fast downloading of full-length songs or music pieces in real time.

The business and popularity of 4Gmobiles is predicted to be very vast. On an average, by 2009, this 4Gmobile market will be over $400B and it will dominate the wireless communications, and its converged system will replace most conventional wireless infrastructure.

Data Rates For 4G:

The downloading speed for mobile Internet connections is from 9.6 kbit/s for 2G cellular at present. However, in actual use the data rates are usually slower, especially in crowded areas, or when there is congestion in network.

4G mobile data transmission rates are planned to be up to 20 megabits per second which means that it will be about 10-20 times faster than standard ASDL services.

In terms of connection seeds, 4G will be about 200 times faster than present 2G mobile data rates, and about 10 times faster than 3G broadband mobile. 3G data rates are currently 2Mbit/sec, which is very fast compared to 2G's 9.6Kbit/sec.

Zodiac Signs ! Brief Explanation !

What is the Zodiac?

If you could observe the motion of the Sun against the stars for an entire year, it would appear to trace out a large circle in the sky that we call the "ecliptic". This circle also happens to be the plane of the Earth's orbit around the Sun. The zodiac is a thin band of the sky on either side of the ecliptic. The word "zodiac" literally means "circle of life", since most of the zodiac signs are animals or people.

What are Zodiac Signs?

The zodiac is divided into 12 signs, each 30 degrees long. The cycle of zodiac signs starts with Aries, which begins at the spot on the ecliptic where the Sun is on the first day of spring. These 30 degree sections of the sky are actually blocks of space, not time.

Zodiac signs are often confused in the popular mind with "sun signs". When a person says, "I'm an Aries!", what they're really saying is they were born at a time of the year when the Sun is in the zodiac sign of Aries. Because our calendar is designed to mimic the motions of the Sun around the zodiac, the Sun is in Aries at nearly the same time period each year (roughly March 20th or 21st to April 19th or 20th). Hence the 12 sun signs are like months of a calendar based on the zodiac. They represent time, not space.

The motions of the other planets through the zodiac signs can be quite irregular, compared to the Sun's motion. On average, they range from the fast moving Moon (which spends about 2-1/2 days in each sign) to the slow poke Pluto (roughly 12 to 24 years in each sign).

Planetary Rulers of the Signs

Each sign is associated with a planet that is called the "ruler" of that sign. Usually, there is some similarity in meaning or energy between the sign and its ruler. A planet is supposed to express its energy in the most natural, straight-forward fashion through the sign it rules.

Some signs (Scorpio, Aquarius, Pisces) have two rulers, an old, traditional ruler and a modern one. Since the discovery of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto the last few centuries, these planets have replaced the traditional rulers. And with the introduction of Chiron and the major asteroids into astrology, yet-another-round of arguments about rulers is breaking out. Perhaps the entire notion of "rulership" should be taken with a grain of salt.

Sub-Cycle Symbolism

Although a certain amount of mythology is associated with the meanings of each sign, most of these meanings are actually derived by looking at the zodiac as a collection of overlapping cycles within cycles.

For instance, the cycle of the 4 elements (fire, earth, air, water) describes 4 different personality types. This cycle is repeated 3 times around the zodiac.
The 3 modalities (cardinal, fixed, mutable) establish 3 distinct styles of expressing energy; this cycle is repeated 4 times.

Each sign has a polarity (positive/negative, or in the older texts, masculine/feminine) that alternates with each sign.

Further, the zodiac is divided into thirds (primordial, individual, universal) and halves (subjective, objective), which suggests a life-cycle of growing emotional and social maturation.
The interweaving of all these sub-cycles then creates the overall profile of the zodiac sign.

World's Most Dangerous Airports !!!

Madeira Airport (Madeira)

Madeira Airport also known as Funchal Airport and Santa Catarina Airport, is an international airport located near Funchal, Madeira. The airport controls national and international air traffic of the island of Madeira.

The airport was once infamous for its short runway which, surrounded by high mountains and the ocean, made it a tricky landing for even the most experienced of pilots. The original runway was only 1,400 metres in length, but was extended by 400 metres after the TAP Air Portugal Flight 425 incident of 1977 and subsequently rebuilt in 2003, almost doubling the size of the runway, building it out over the ocean. Instead of using landfill, the extension was built on a series of 180 columns, each being about 70m tall.

For the enlargement of the new runway the Funchal Airport has won the Outstanding Structures Award, given by International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). The Outstanding Structures Award is considered to be the "Oscar" for engineering structures in Portugal.

Gustaf III Airport (St. Bart)

Gustaf III Airport also known as Saint Barthélemy Airport is a public use airport located in the village of St. Jean on the Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy. Both the airport and the island's main town of Gustavia are named for King Gustav III of Sweden, under whom Sweden obtained the island from France in 1785 (it was sold back to France in 1878). The airport is served by small regional commercial aircraft and charters. Most visiting aircraft carry fewer than twenty passengers, such as the Twin Otter, a common sight around Saint Barth and throughout the northern West Indies. The short airstrip is at the base of a gentle slope ending directly on the beach. The arrival descent is extremely steep over the hilltop traffic circle and departing planes fly right over the heads of sunbathers (although small signs advise sunbathers not to lie directly at the end of the runway).

Courchevel (France)

Courchevel is the name of a ski area located in the French Alps, the largest linked ski area in the world. It's airport has a certain degree of infamy in the aviation industry as home to a relatively short runway, with a length of 525 m (1,722 ft) and a gradient of 18.5%. It's so short that you have to land on an inclined strip to slow down and take off on a decline to pick up enough speed.

Who gets to land here? Well, Pierce Brosnan made the short list. This was the airport used in the opening seen of Tomorrow Never Dies. For the rest of us, private plane, helicopter, or charter are the only ways to go, and your pilot is going to need some serious training before he or she is allowed to land at CVF.

Pakistani Student Enters Guinness Book of World Record !

RAWALPINDI: Ali Moeen Nawazish of Rawalpindi has brought worldwide recognition to Pakistan by blazing his way into the Guinness Book of World Records, clearing 23 A-Level subjects and securing A Grade in 21 of them.
A student of Roots School System, it was Ali’s “thirst for knowledge” that made him the only student in the world to appear in 23 subjects. He appeared in all examinations within 12 months.
Rarely has a Pakistani student taken up subjects that Ali opted for, like Tourism and Marine Sciences. He is also the first student in the world to have secured 21 A Grades, the previous record being 13.
No wonder his remarkable success drew the attention of major international newspapers with CNN and BBC also airing his interviews. Unfortunately authorities in Pakistan were unmoved. When Ali sat down to fill up his university application forms at home, there was barely enough space to list all his qualifications. With his talent spilling over, it was no surprise that he also achieved a top score in the US admissions test and was accepted by most Ivy League institutions, including Harvard and Yale. Apart from core science subjects, Ali is almost entirely self-taught with his extraordinary memory and amazing analytical powers

With the LED Blow On-Off Candles, you can have the flickering beauty of a candle with the safety of an electric light.

What makes these particular gadgets worthy? They are unique in their design, for the most part. Although they look just like a candle and can fool guests when placed at the right distance and height, these candles not only blow out... but they blow on! With just a little puff of air, you can relight the "flame" of your LED Blow On-Off Candle and really add to the magic of any get-together.

With a master "on-off" switch on the bottom of the candle, these unusual creations work with just 2 AA batteries. So, you can have your mood lighting and enjoy it too, as you won't be worried about the safety issues that can come with open flame candles.

Portable Handsfree Can Opener
Are you one of those people who love to use technology for everything and needs to have a gadget to complete nearly every task in your house? If so, you'll want to check out the latest in kitchen gadgets, the Handsfree Can Opener. Other hands free openers can be big and take up space with their electrical cords while others won't open large cans. But this Handsfree Can Opener can open any size can, is battery powered and small enough to fit in your pocket. This gadget is simple to use and is especially handy for people with limited hand strength. Simply secure the opener to the top of the can and hold the button down for a second, for larger cans you may need to push the button twice.

The Handsfree Opener then automatically travels around the top of the can and slices the top right off. It will leave the top of your can smooth with no jagged edges to puncture your garbage bag or cut a finger. Measuring only 6 ½" long and weighing only 7 oz., this can opener is small and completely portable so you can take it almost anywhere, to a family picnic or on your next camping trip. It runs on 2 AA batteries and will open over 100 cans before needing to replace them. Your collection of handy kitchen gadgets wouldn't be complete with the new Handsfree Can Opener

Kitchen Counter Herb Garden

Why spend the time and energy to go shopping for fresh herbs when you can easily grow your own? The Kitchen Counter Herb Garden is a countertop indoor device that provides all the necessary conditions for your first garden. The controlled system of air, moisture, light and nutrients make it possible to produce gourmet herbs, even if you have never had any gardening experience!

The garden contains seven herb seed pods, and while each pod can grow a variety of seeds, the kit already comes prepared to grow dill, chives, cilantro, oregano, mint, and two strains of basil. You can also buy pod sets that are ready for tomatoes and salad greens. Can you imagine how good this indoor garden would make your countertop smell? Each seed is covered during germination with a plastic, temperature-regulating dome, and a nutrient-rich, organic water solution is distributed through a hidden reservoir into the pods via a drip irrigation system. This ensures an appropriate level of moisture and allows your herbs to be optimally grown.

Two 26-watt fluorescent bulbs yield up to 24 hours of optimal growing light, and a built-in chip automatically controls nutrient and light inputs to the pods as they grow. With dimensions of only 22" H x 16" W x 10 1/2", it is quite remarkable that such a device can produce fresh herbs without soil, sunlight or pesticides. Use it to spice up your kitchen, office desk, or bathroom, and marvel at how easy it is to run your own mini-garden!

Energy Efficient Water-Powered Calculator
In this day and age of "going green" and looking for alternative sources of energy, the makers of the water-powered calculator are on the path of cutting edge technology. Yes, it is true that solar powered calculators use less battery power, but they still require a battery back-up and that battery still needs to be replaced which causes unwanted waste. But with the water-powered calculator there is no waste and you can re-charge it straight from the tap.

It functions just like any pocket calculator, but can be filled with water or any other type of electrolytic liquid. Equipped with a fuel cell, the water inside the calculator creates a chemical reaction with the zinc anode and cathode. This chemical reaction causes an electrical current, and presto, you can solve all those mathematical equations! The water-powered calculator can calculate for up to a month on less than a cup of water.

Facts about Butterflies of the Rain Forest -For Kids !

Butterflies are among the most beautiful and marvelous creatures in all of nature. Tropical Central and South America is the richest region in the world for butterflies, but they are found in many other places as well. Costa Rica has over 1300 species.

A butterfly's life begins with a very tiny egg laid on a leaf. From this develops a larva, the butterfly's caterpillar stage. Eventually, the larva makes a cocoon or chrysalis. Safe inside, it develops into a pupa. Eventually, a beautiful butterfly is released from this container, flying heavenward, fully-developed. What an astounding transformation, from a humble, earth bound worm-like creature to a delicate flying wonder!

The adult usually eventually returns to the very plant or tree trunk where it grew up. There it lays its own eggs and begins the process anew (a 2 to 3 month cycle).

Did you know that…

1-The color in a butterfly's wings does not come from pigment. The color is produced prism-like by light reflected by their transparent wing scales.

2-Stranger yet, no moth or butterfly eats solid food (though some butterflies drink nectar); some can not even take in moisture.

3-The life span of most butterflies is very short, usually just enough to lay their eggs.

4-Many butterflies migrate from one region to another, either individually or in swarms. The greatest migration in North America occurs when companies of Monarch butterflies travel from Canada southward to Central America. When they finally roost at their destination, so many crowd the forest that entire trees appear to be covered with bright orange moving leaves!

5-It is a great mystery how the descendants of these Monarchs later find their way back north to their summering place. Stranger yet, their great-great-grandchildren later find their way back south to the tree of their great-great-grandparents. Their Creator designed them with truly amazing abilities!

6-The world's fastest butterfly is the Monarch with a record of 17 miles per hour

7-The brain capabilities of these small insects is mind-boggling. In a space often no bigger than a speck, their Creator designed a sophisticated brain that enables them to see, smell, taste, fly and navigate with such great precision that they can travel enormous distances and find the very tree where their great-great-great-grandmother laid an egg.

8-Their highly-miniaturized brains put our computers and aircraft avionics to shame. Who could make a self-propelled, self-guided airplane as small as a butterfly that could do the same things, totally independently? Traveling so many miles, landing many times, making so many accurate, in-flight navigation corrections, and doing it all with so little fuel - and then reproduce itself at the end? No one but God could make such a marvelous creature as a butterfly.

9-God created butterflies and moths in many different shapes and color patterns.

This moth has spots that make it appear to have large eyes that are looking at you! Perhaps this scares away predators. Moths are much more common than butterflies.

10-The largest butterfly in the world is the Giant Birdwing from the Solomon Islands. The female can have a wing span of over 12 inches, that's over a foot long! When he lands on your nose; he covers your face!

11-The smallest butterfly ever found was only half an inch long lengthwise.

Strange and Unique Vehicles !

Mercedes F 300 Life-Jet

The Mercedes F 300 Life-Jet was first shown back in 1997 at the 57th Frankfurt International Motor Show. The Life-Jet incorporates an active tilt control system allowing the front wheels and body of the tandem two-seater to lean into corners. This means the F 300 Life-Jet can attain cornering speeds similar to those of a motorbike.

The active tilt control also increases the overall ride comfort for the passengers by moving the cornering forces to a central, vertical axis, rather than a sideways force. As well as looking like great fun.

A complicated electronic system monitors the F 300 Life-Jet's speed, acceleration, cornering angle and yaw. From this information commands are given to a hydraulic cylinder mounted on the front axle which forces one of the two spring loaded struts outwards to produce the desired degree of tilt. The maximum lean angle is 30 degrees.

The F 300 Life-Jet's compact engine and transmission, taken from the Mercedes A-Class, are located between the interior compartment and the rear wheel.

This powerplant is capable of accelerating the F 300 Life-Jet to 60 mph in just 7.7 seconds, continuing onto a maximum speed of 130mph.

Unfortunately the F 300 Life-Jet remains a concept, however the wheel-tilt technology from the concept found its way into another Mercedes concept the Mercedes F-400 Carving.

Mitka Trike

The Mitka trike concept from 2002 was the product of several dutch companies, Kathalys Centrum voor Duurzame Productinnovatie, Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research and the Delft University of Technology.

The Mitka is a commuter tricycle with electric power-assistance. In electric only mode the Mitka is capable of 15 mph (25km/h), and has a range of 15 - 22 miles. With the rider pedaling the Mitka can get up to speeds of 22 mph. An removable palm-top computer mounted in the dash provides the rider with performance data.

Part of the appeal of the Mitka trike is the tilting mechanism which allows the vehicle to lean into the corners like a regular two-wheel bicycle. To make the Mitka more practical an adjustable height windscreen and retractable clear roof can be deployed to provide some protection from the elements. The Mitka also has a small luggage rack to hold a small amount personal belongings.

The Mitka trike is 175 cm long and 85 cm wide. Total weight is a little over 45 kgs.

Currently the Mitka prototype is being tested by Nike. Unfortunatley a production version of the Mitka is currently not available.

Jeep Hurricane

The Jeep Hurricane's one-piece body is composed largely of light-weight carbon fiber. The Hurricane’s body also serves as the chassis, and all of the vehicle's components such as the engine's (yes there's two!), transmission, and suspension system are mounted directly to the body. The skid plate is an aluminum spine that connects the chassis to the underside of the vehicle. The Hurricane doesn’t have side doors or a roof, and there is only seating for two people.

Powered by two 5.7-liter HEMI engines, one in the front and one in the back, making a total of 670 horsepower, driving all 4 wheels the power is certainly there. And with fully controllable 4 wheel steering so is the maneuverability.

So the Jeep's claims are probably true!

Monowheel Wheel Surf

The WheelSurf is a monowheel vehicle consisting of two frames, an inner frame and an outer 5' 7" frame.

The Wheelsurf rider sits inside the inner frame along with a 56cc two stroke Stihl engine and the petrol tank.

The Wheelsurf tops out at around 30mph (50km/h) and the monowheel configuration gives the rider a unique experience.

Currently the WheelSurf is not road legal, and because smooth flat surfaces are the best place to run a monowheel this may be a problem.

However, this unique monowheel is also marketed for use in promotional displays and sheer frivolous enjoyment.
The overall weight of the Wheelsurf is 50kgs.

Bombardier Embrio

The Embrio concept from Bombadier Recreational Products (better known for their more conventional forms of transport like jetskis) uses gyroscopic technology to balance itself and the rider on one central wheel. The smaller front wheel acts to stabilize the Embrio when stopped or traveling below 12mph.
